Love this flatware set!
I have had a set of Mooncrest silverware since the summer of 2005 and I absolutely love it. Actually, I have 3 sets of the service for four so that I can have family dinners on the holidays. Unfortunately, my fiance takes my silverware to work (against my wishes!) and I have lost a few pieces over the last 6 months so I need to replace them. The pieces are very comfortable and feel very well-made. The onces I bought in 2005 are Onieda’s “three star” quality, and I’m not aware of this pattern in “five-star.” If it were I’d buy it in a heartbeat. I really don’t have any discoloration issues with any of the stainless. Since I now have a dishwasher, they do get water spots, but when I feel it’s an issue I just wash and dry by hand and they go away.
A Nice Surprise
It was the other reviews that tipped me to purchase. Such a reasonable price…could there be some real quality for that price? YES! The positive reviewers were right. This stainless has a nice weight to it, easy to handle and a simple but beautiful look. Cleans up easily. After recieving the 45 pc set, I went ahead and ordered the 4 place setting set as well. Love it!
very good value for money
It’s probably not the highest quality (18/10 steel, other Oneida sets would have some higher value I think), which is adequately reflected in the price. My set does show some “darkening” streaks… maybe I should better say that it just doesn’t shine as much anymore as when it was new (having it for 1.5 years now, no dishwasher though). My personal take is that this “darkening” (on single pieces only, I should add) is due to what I perceive as the lower quality of the steel — which may or may not be true, I’m speaking as a lay person obviously. Having said all this: this is a very appealing design, doesn’t look neither too casual nor too chic, it weighs very well in one’s hand and is balanced well, and the knives cut well. Overall I think this is a very good value for the price. After having debated whether I should buy a higher quality steel for a second set, I decided to buy another set of the Moonchrest, because it simply looks very good (received even compliments on it), and is functional enough for daily use and classy enough to serve guests with. You can tell, I’m happy with my choice. If I had a wish, though, I would have liked the Moonchrest design in that higher value steel that most Oneida silverware products are made of (that’s why I gave four instead of five stars, because to me it’s not the “perfect” product).
