My friends are all jealous![]()
I bought this TV one year ago, and at the same time my dad bought a Sony XBR-4 52″ 1080p LCD. He was obsessed with that TV before he bought it, because of a demo in the Sony store. I did more research, and looked at flat panels for months in several stores. Side-by-side comparisons are the best way to see which TV has the best picture quality. This has by far a much smoother and sharper image than my dad’s TV, and after one year, he finally admits he should have bought the Samsung Plasma. There is one other review here that claims the TV puts out a lot of heat. It’s true, the screen eminates heat, but so does my 46″ 1080p Sharp Aquos LCD. I don’t think this is a problem with screen life, because after 1 year, I have no burn-in (which is crazy because of how many video games I play, and how much of the day I keep the TV on.). The picture still looks flawless, and all of my friends who bought rear projection and LCD’s are jealous of the sharpness and smooth motion the plasma screen has. It’s worth it. If you are still reading this, then you haven’t bought the TV yet. Don’t disappoint yourself, this baby is sweet.
One of the best Plasmas around![]()
After much research online and staring at Panasonic and Samsung sitting next to each other at various stores, went with Samsumg FP-T5884. Extremely happy with the purchase. I am going through all my DVD collection! I have it hooked up with Philips DVD DVP5982 (1080P upconvert – didn’t want to waste money on Blueray or HD DVD at this time) and Onkyo 705 receiver. I have Dish Network DVR 722 and the DVD player hooked up to the Onkyo receiver with HDMI and the receiver hooked up to the TV with HDMI. Make no mistake, you have to take time to tweak the settings on these devices to get the audio and video you like. Once you do that, just sit and enjoy the experience!! The Standard Def content from the Dish Network is also ok once you tweak the settings. Overall, you can’t go wrong with this TV. Make sure you get HDMI 1.3 certified cables if running through a receiver capable of 1.3. I have cables & surge protectors from Belkin, works perfect..
Money well spent![]()
I did not buy the TV from (or through) Amazon.com. Instead I purchased it from another West Coast retailer, because back in February, 2008 it was cheaper.
In 5 months since I bought it the only problem I’d had was a single flickering pixel close to the middle of the screen, and it was visible only in 1080p “Just Scan” mode. After two visits from a Samsung technician, the central logic board was replaced, and that issue does not happen anymore. For settings, I am using slightly modified CNET recommendations. Picture quality is just perfect in HD mode and very good in SD. Even VGA input from my HTPC looks fine at 1920X1080 resolution. I wish the TV had 4 HDMI inputs like this year Samsung models, and that is the only complaint so far. Otherwise, I see no improvement in the picture quality comparing it with 2009 58″ models. Pretty sure that the super-high contrast ratio all new plasma models claim is just that – claims :)
And, since nowadays the cost of this TV dropped to below $[...] (I paid way more) – I wish I waited a bit. On the other hand, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this plasma for some time now. LCD TVs picture quality is not even close, especially for movie watching.
